Arrested a grave desecator in Cheste who stole jewelry from the deceased

The Civil Guard of Ribarroja, in the context of Operation Dobecose, has arrested a man accused of desecrating graves in the cemetery in the Valencian town of Cheste. The author's objective was to remove the largest number of valuable objects from graves and corpses.

In order to achieve his ends, he coerced another man with a simulated pistol, with which he lived, to help him by carrying out surveillance work in the cemetery. The Civil Guard has arrested the man, aged 26 and of Spanish nationality, for the crimes of theft, coercion and against religious feelings and respect for the deceased.

The Guardia Civil has been tracking the desecator since 8 January, following a complaint about the desecration of several graves in Cheste. One of those coffins, even, was open leaving the body in sight. The night before the complaint, a man made a phone call to Emergency to say that he was witnessing young people trying to break into the Cheste cemetery.

Following an investigation, on 18 January, the Civil Guard searched the town of Cheste, at the complainant's home, who had attempted to charge other persons with their crimes. More than 50 funerary objects and a simulated pistol were found in the house. The proceedings have been handed over to the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Requena.
