He traveled to the last World Cup, stole a suitcase with jewelry and buried it in a Russian field: he fell assaulting an apartment in Caballito

The robbery had been perfect.Edgar Alejandro Valero (43) was one of the hundreds of thousands of tourists who arrived in Russia during the 2018 World Cup.But Edgar, Colombian as well as his travelmates, was not interested in football. He had arrived in Kazan (820 kilometers from Moscow) for what would happen in the exhibition Center Kazanskaya Yarmarka.

Valero and his partners were specialists in robberies in jewelry conventions. They traveled the world doing the same: they learned online from the different events and acted. They lived in Bogotá.There they also invested their ankle boots, which only stole abroad.

On one of the convention days, a safety employee of the Seven Diamonds jewelry store stole a suitcase.Speaking perfect English, they simulated wanting to help him.But they left with the suitcase. The jewels were valued at 2.1 million dollars. It was in July 2018.Valero was just identified by Interpol's Russian office in September of that year. And he was given an international capture request.

For almost a year they had no news of their whereabouts.Knowing their customs of traveling to Europe, Asia and the United States, among many other destinations, their residence was an unknown.Until he appeared at a police station in the City of Buenos Aires. It was September 1, 2019.The noon of that day entered a building by José María Moreno at 600, in Caballito. An accomplice accompanied him. They entered with a key, without forcing the lock. And they headed towards the garage.Surely they would wait a few minutes to decide for one of the homes, to devalue them.

Colombians preferred that time to steal the departments of the City of Buenos Aires because they believed that the managers slept their nap or lunch. But this time, the goalkeeper saw them for security cameras.Called 911 and arrested them.

They were charged with the crime of "violation of domicile".As it did not have a history in Argentina, the Prosecutor's Office, the accused and their defenders agreed a six -month suspension penalty.Forty -eight hours later, his accomplice went free.Edgar Alejandro Valero Valero, no.Russia's extradition request left him detained. He entered a federal prison (Devotee, Marcos Paz or Ezeiza) and stayed until March 8, 2021.That day they took him to Ezeiza airport and was extradited to Russia.

Until there, one more expulsion. The surprise was known last week, when Valero Valero declared: he said that the jewels continued in Kazan.A forest pointed out in which he swore to have buried the loot.Using radars, the police found them: there were 4 bags with diamonds and jewels. All intact. The Colombian himself, handcuffed and surrounded by prison agents, said the place where they dug until they found the jewels. It is believed to spend the next 10 years in Russian prisons.

Viajó al último Mundial, robó una valija con joyas y la enterró en un campo ruso: cayó asaltando un departamento en Caballito

"Oh Papi. Those are hot countries. You can't get out of what is steal. That is why many Colombians bury their ankle boots and then return to remove it.Or send other people, "a Colombian tells Clarín who stole in Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

Some of the "hot" countries that speak are, in addition to Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore and the United States.Usually, the bands of "Botineros" (as the thieves of jewelry suitcases are called in Colombians) have international redundors who travel to the site where they are to buy them the stolen.

The problem is that in certain countries, such as those named, the authorities are convinced that they are not about local thieves. Then, they reinforce their safety in airports. And the reductors do not dare to travel with the jewels. They prefer to miss a while.

The custom of Colombians to travel to crime began in the late 50s.The legend says that everything was born from a thief in Bogotá who traveled to New York to escape from the Colombian Police.Had committed a murder. He was an expert in the outburst of watches in downtown Bogotá.

Maybe that's why, one afternoon went to tour the jewelry area of Fifth Avenue. He saw a briefcase he liked, entered the jewelry behind his victim and stole it.Without violence.Without anyone noticing it.He took the briefcase and left.Opened it at the hotel.Found tens of thousands of dollars. He called his companions from Bogotá and invited them to travel. His band was the first. But with the months, others appeared. In Colombia, thieves who act abroad are called "the international".

For decades, they chose jewelry areas of a good part of the world. They made all kinds of modalities: in addition to stealing whole suitcases, there were those that were passed through customers and loose cloths or jewels were stolen. But the most experienced pointed to conventions. They knew there would come the best jewels in the world. But at the same time, they made thefts of cell phones and wallets, bank salider and helped houses.

The "international" began arriving in Buenos Aires between 2007 and 2009.They came, more than anything, under the "Apartialos" modality. That is, the Colombian version of the Buenos Aires scrupine: enter houses and departments when their owners were not. Then their arrests for "freight" became common: they marked the victims in parking lots of the Buenos Aires center, they followed them and if they saw that they entered banks, caves or financial ones, they broke a glass of the car to steal their backpack or briefcase they carried.

In general, each "international" is a specialist in a modality. But commits all kinds of robberies.

According to Clarín, Valero Valero is from southern Bogotá.He grew up in a low neighborhood of the poorest area in the city.Much of your family is dedicated to the same. They are one of the most recognized families among "the internationals".The robberies allowed them, among so many things to move to a better neighborhood, tour the world and invest in shops from different items.

Argentina had not only arrived to escape from Russia. As this newspaper could know, on August 1, 2009 he had registered in the AFIP.As the main activity, said "retail sale of textile items N.c.p.except clothing (includes retail sale, carpets, etc..) ".He took Argentine ID and CUIT number and Cuil.He set an address at Hipólito Yrigoyen at 1300, from CABA.

His activities began in November 2013.Later registered two others: "Retail sale of household items N.c.p.In specialized shops "and" retail sale of textile items N.c.p.except clothing ".
