Jewels, color and a great absence: the first post-covid gala dinner of the Swedish Royal House

One of the monarchies that needed to establish the 'new normality' in their agendas was the Swedish one, something that they have remedied this week. After the state visit of Guillermo and Máxima from the Netherlands to Germany, that of Felipe and Letizia to Andorra or the one that the South Korean president and his wife made to our country not long ago, the turn of the kings Carlos Gustavo has arrived and Silvia from Sweden, who are receiving these days the German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by his wife, Elke Büdenbender. And it has been a return of the big events to Sweden that has had everything: jewels, a lot of color and even a great absence.Jewels, color and a great absence: the first post-COVID gala dinner for the Swedish Royal House Jewels, color and a great absence: the Swedish Royal House's first post-COVID gala dinner

The first acts of the state visit have taken place throughout the day in the capital, with the kings themselves and Victoria of Sweden as the main hosts, although there has also been room for surprise, since we have seen how the princess Sofía made a stop on the way to her maternity leave to join the official lunch that took place at the palace. A navy blue dress with small white polka dots by LK Bennet has served her return to work, less than six months after she gave birth to her third child, Prince Julian.

And after this, one of the most anticipated moments, the night and the gala dinner, for which the ladies of the Bernadotte family have thrown in the rest. Precisely, the Royal House of Sweden was the first that, in March 2020, had to cancel a major appointment at the Royal Palace in Stockholm due to the health situation. So, a year and a half later, they have been able to make up for it. The crockery and glassware of the great occasions have been dusted off and finally the great hall has hosted a state dinner, which was also adapted to the context marked by the covid.

But the occasion deserved it and the best jewels of the Bernadotte family have not been lacking, and both Queen Silvia and Princess Victoria have wanted to wear some of their favorite pieces. Starting with the wife of Carlos Gustavo, who has not hesitated to take out the heavy artillery of her jewelry box, with the Sofía tiara and an impressive necklace of emeralds, diamonds and diamonds, matching the earrings and the brooch.

Including the dress, it is exactly what she chose for the 2018 Nobel Prize ceremony. The tiara, commissioned by King Oscar II for his wife, Sofia of Nassau, is said to be one of the most difficult to achieve. take all that Silvia has at her disposal. But, curiously, it is one of her favorites along with sapphires, for which she has a special weakness.

For her part, Princess Victoria has also repeated her dress, in this case a red Escada design that has captured all the attention. In addition, she has also worn another of the great pieces from the family jewelery box. In her case, the Connaught tiara, made of diamonds with different types of cuts. It represents a 'forget me not' garland, making five loops, from which diamond drops hang. It is also one of the most frequently used by both Queen Silvia and her two daughters. And it is one of those jewels that can be converted into a different piece, since it can act as a choker, but also the diamonds that hang from the garlands can be used as earrings individually.

Mother and daughter were resplendent and have almost made us forget what has been the great absence of the night. Sofia of Sweden, although she had joined the morning's events, has not attended this gala dinner, so we have seen Prince Carlos Felipe alone.
