Pieces from the roots: Patricia Pérez Salem designs jewelry with her firm La Emperatriz
For more than 15 years, Patricia Pérez Salem has lived in Mexico, her native country, a matter that led her to create La Emperatriz, her jewelry firm with which she wanted to pay tribute to our country.
“(The firm) started in Barcelona and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it was there, because it was nostalgic. I missed the color and all the culture of Mexico, which has always been very much a part of me," said the businesswoman in an interview with El Heraldo de México, who currently resides in Barcelona, the place where the firm was born.
“Libertas, love for Mexico and its symbols, and fun” is the message that Patricia Pérez Salem wants to send with each of her collections, which are made up of various pieces such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc., which are created by hand and using organic resin as the main material: “The material that opened the doors to jewelry for me was resin, because it was made for me as a material that could have many applications. In Barcelona there are some very cool companies that make resin from wood scraps, which they call ecological”, a material that is also hypoallergenic.
In addition to resin, they also use other types of materials such as gold, silver, brass, as well as various precious stones for the pieces. Undoubtedly, the word creativity is embodied in each of the pieces by La Emperatriz, which are inspired by various stories of its creator: “My pieces and my collections have a very autobiographical touch, because I always make a story in my head, and it always coincides with something that suits me,” said Patricia.
Regarding the name of the firm, Patricia confessed that it was inspired by the Tarot: “I love the Tarot, so when I got married I remember that I bought a book by Jodoravskik called The Way of the Tarot , where he explains the Marseille tarot. The Empress is a card that represents a mature and wise woman, and I wanted to take ownership of that name, not for myself, but so that everyone who used my pieces would feel like that, accompanied by that strength or that wisdom”.
As for what awaits the firm, Patricia confessed that she would love to venture into the world of objects or furniture: “… I have two collections in which I am doing that, I have made vases and what follows I think are as furniture, I would like to see that on a table, a piece of furniture or something else that can be used”.
