The volcano that erupted more than a month ago on the Canary Island of La Palma has recently expelled a highly prized semi-precious mineral. It is a highly sought after gem, known as olivine, or also olivine-glass.
The Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias has wanted to analyze the volcano in depth through different studies and hypotheses, going so far as to discover which materials it spits outward. One of them is a mineral considered to be a semi-precious stone, and it is often used when making jewelry.
The opinion of an expert on jewelry
As has interviewed the owner of a jewelry store, Platonic jewels, which specializes in making and designing jewelry with sheep, the same mineral that is currently expelling the volcano of La Palma.
"being a semi-precious stone, Platonic's goldsmiths ride it in gold and silver, resulting in exclusive and representative pieces of the area, as it is a characteristic stone of the Canary Islands," said the owner of the jewelry, El Mahi.
Olive crystal prices on the market
The owner has come to verify that there are a lot of deposits of this mineral scattered all over the world: "I bought it in Sri Lanka, Latin America, India... Forgeries are very commonly found on the Canary market. The prices of a carved sheep range from €40 to €300 per carat. "
