The owner of a £564 designer bag accidentally left it in the fitting room of a charity shop, which then mistakenly sold it for a fraction of its value.

Zharkyn Ermekovna, a mother of two, tried on a coat at an RSPCA charity shop, but she forgot to pick up her luxury Balenciaga bag that she bought at Harrods.

She claims shop volunteers at her local store in East Finchley, north London, sold it for a fraction of its value within an hour.

The RSPCA is now appealing to the buyer to come forward and return the bag.

Zharkyn told The Sun: "You can't sell something like that, especially when it's a designer product.

"I asked how it was sold full of items and was told it was empty and they wouldn't be watching CCTV.

"It is shocking. I don't know what happened, I don't know what the truth is."

Zharkyn says that she lost items, including keys, in the designer bag.

The RSPCA apologized for selling the bag, which they said was a "genuine mistake made in good faith".

The charity said it cannot provide CCTV footage to the bag owner directly due to data protection laws, but reported the matter to police as a possible theft.

A spokesperson said: “We have apologized to the owner of the bag for selling it, it was a very genuine mistake made in good faith and we are making efforts to track him down.

“It would appear from the CCTV cameras that the owner of the bag left it in a dressing room for about an hour and then a customer took it to the checkout to ask if he could buy it.

“We believe the bag was emptied prior to taking it to the register and there were no obvious signs that it was a lost personal item, so it was sold in good faith.

“It was only when the owner of the bag returned the next day that it was discovered that a genuine error had occurred.

“The branch, which is a separately registered charity that raises money to help animals in the local area by caring for and rehoming animals in need and offering subsidized veterinary treatment for low-income pet owners, has apologized and launched an investigation. .

“Unfortunately, the charity shop is unable to provide CCTV footage to the bag owner directly due to data protection laws.

"However, the charity has reported the matter to the police and we urge the owner of the bag to also report it to the police and the branch will help with the investigation."

“The person who bought the bag was not linked to the branch nor was he a regular customer.

"The branch makes a call for the customer who bought the bag to get in touch so that it can be returned to its rightful owner."

The Daily Star has approached the Met Police for confirmation.
