His story was told by himself when he was invited to one of the first Fashion Weeks held in the city of Popayán, in the department of Cauca. By that time, he had already managed to overcome the obstacles to participate in one of the most important fashion events in the country. Initially, he did not enter the business as a luxury stylist: he took his first steps when he was three decades old and sweeping a hair salon. Leal was also in charge of serving red wine and washing hair: a common job with a minimum wage.
After that job, according to the interview, when he was already the most desired by the clients, he decided to go to another hairdresser that would improve his opportunities, but his old colleagues "threw him out." He arrived at a luxury salon where he also managed to attract clients and went to a spa.

Finally, and successfully, Mauricio had the opportunity to open his first hair salon in Cali, which became the most renowned in the city.
In addition, on his YouTube account, the stylist shared a message about his life story. “Like everything in life, professional and personal, it is full of obstacles, joys, dreams, goals and above all, passion. Passion, for me, is paramount in any area of life; where there is love and passion for what is done, the rest is just one more step to reach the goals and to dream as high as they can, ”he wrote to his followers.
His life was full of difficult moments, especially after being diagnosed with a severe disease: pseudoarthrosis. Mauricio told ALO magazine in 2017 that it wore down his chest in such a way that it was already about to break. The scenario was critical: it was urgent to perform a transplant, but the first one was complicated fourteen days later, when the device with screws came loose.
