The National Police have dismantled an itinerant gang of Croatian origin accused of assaulting nine homes in Gijón during the last week. The investigation is still open to determine whether they could be involved in more crimes.

Those arrested, two men and three women, were staying in a tourist apartment in Avilés, where they went after committing the attacks. They were identified thanks to the recording of a security camera from the crossing of the Convent, where they broke into a home to rob. "They violated the bowler hat of the door locks and stole jewelry, money, clothing and accessories from expensive brands," they point out from the Police Station.

The police investigation began on December 11 after an attempted robbery in an apartment on Calle Álava. The arrival of a neighbor when they had already removed the bowler hat from the door made them flee. From that day on, other robberies were committed in flats in Gijón using the same method of action. «The events were carried out at mid-morning or mid-afternoon, when the residents were absent, at work or shopping. They accessed the interior using the slip technique, effective as long as the tenant had not locked the door, using a plastic sheet to overcome the resistance of the door. If this technique was not effective, they used tools to fracture the cylinder of the lock, “adds the Police.

They entered the portal

The images collected confirmed that it was the three women who entered the portals, taking advantage of the exit of a neighbor or delivery man. "They took turns among themselves to force the lock and carry out surveillance tasks, trying to act quickly and not attract attention" and also, "they changed their hairstyle and warm clothes on the way out with the intention of making it difficult to locate them."

On Friday morning they were located at a police checkpoint deployed on El Llano avenue. They entered Gijón by car to, supposedly, commit new robberies. The agents located tools in the car in which they were traveling, some hidden in the roof and under the mats. The five arrested, all of them of Croatian nationality and between the ages of 18 and 23, had their residence fixed in the center of the peninsula, but they traveled to Asturias to perpetrate the blows, choosing a tourist apartment to try not to be located.
