I think the time is coming for me to hang up the gloves

JUAN CARLOS DE FELIPE Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

- The victory in the Tenerife Rally has given you renewed strength, in a 2021 season that has not gone as you expected.

- We are very happy. This year we started with one car and we are finishing with another, we have worked and continue to work a lot and I think we are at a good level to fight for the 2021 Canary Islands championship.

- Now it's time for the Rally Islas Canarias, a test in which he starts as the top favourite, given his last victories, in this event in the Canary Islands section.

- The top favorite is the team that goes first, in any case Copi Sport with Enrique Cruz and his car. It is true that in recent seasons I have been ahead, yes, but that is just an anecdote. Each Rally is different and each season a world.

- Mathematically anything is possible at CCRA 2021, where it's all up to you to win the title. He has to win it all to achieve it.

- The ones who have it best are Cruz and Mujica. We come uphill all year long with the Citroën and we had to change the mount. We were a bit sick of walking Miss Daisy around the countryside and that's why the Skoda Fabia Rally2 arrived.

- Since he competed with his new Skoda, this frame has not stopped evolving. Will you make any important changes before Isla Canarias?

- We are constantly putting the Fabia into our way of driving, because each driver has his own and I'm not going to change it now when I'm old. I try to make the car and I fit together as well as possible. Now, we have all the evolutions of the brand the next minute and at the same time we evolve the car to leave it the way I like it.

- Are you excited to win the 2021 Canarian Asphalt Rally Championship?

- It's not that I want to win it, in fact I'm not excited, because it's not my goal. What I want is to unseat the one who wins it or nullify the possibility that in this case the Copi Sport team will win it, that makes me very upset. That in the end getting one thing comes the other, well welcome.

- Is it true what they say that the Fabia Rally2 is the best car?

- What I can say is that with Citroën it seemed that its competition department was being dismantled and with Skoda it is the opposite, we just have to call to have our doubts resolved or to give us another way to fix them, and in terms of maintenance and hardness, Skoda is impressive, it's a shame not to have known it before. For me it is the best Rally2 I have tried.

- Fans aren't used to seeing an assist completely shut out of sight, which is the case with yours. Will you continue with this custom in the remaining rallies?

- I don't want anyone to misunderstand me, but I do it to be able to work better, I'm a bit of a maniac with some things and I need my space and my time. For example, I like to shower and change my underwear at each service and to be able to talk with the engineer and with Armide to make important decisions, and that takes a lot of time. But above all I want to be completely focused to improve on each stage, and if I don't do that I think I'm wasting my team and sponsors' time. To give 100% I need some things and that is one of them. My job at that moment is to be focused and squeeze the time to the maximum to get the maximum profitability, technically speaking, and then with the car in the special stage. Therefore, everything that takes time from me, I'm sorry but it doesn't play at that moment.

- Will you be able to see him in full competition next year or are you already thinking about retiring?

- I think the time is coming or has come to hang up the gloves. I know I've said it on many occasions, but I think this time is the definitive one. I have already told the family and the sponsors, and I have not considered any project for next year. And what I want is to retire, it is the moment, and the good thing is to make the decision and not for others to take it, and above all to go through the front door. In addition, the races are getting in a way that I have stopped liking.
