Bagá, the first restaurant in Jaén with a Michelin Star

JAÉN.- The Bagá restaurant has become, tonight, the first restaurant in Jaén with a Michelin Star. An award was announced a few minutes ago in Lisbon where the gala of these prestigious awards is being held. Pedro Sánchez, his chef, has collected the star that accredits him as one of the best restaurants on the peninsula. Bagá, located at number 3 of Calle Reja de la Capilla, behind the church of San Ildefonso.

A “very important recognition that, without a doubt, grants unparalleled prestige to Jaén gastronomy at a national and international level”, underlined the president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, Francisco Reyes.

Reyes, accompanied by the second vice president and deputy for Promotion and Tourism, Manuel Fernández, attended the gala for the Michelin Spain and Portugal guide in Lisbon, in which the names of the restaurants and chefs from these two countries were announced that have been recognized with these distinctions –the most prestigious in gastronomy– and in which the only extra virgin olive oils present have been the “Jaén Selección” 2018, which has meant that “the province of Jaén has had a leading role very special”, Reyes highlighted.

The president of the Diputación has personally congratulated this chef from Jaén for having achieved this distinction, which "has been the result of extraordinary work carried out over many years, based on great dedication and enormous effort to offer the highest possible quality to the diner, taking care of the smallest detail and betting on innovation and local products, such as extra virgin olive oil”.

In this sense, the president of the Provincial Council of Jaén has highlighted the contribution of Jaén gastronomes such as Pedro Sánchez "to promoting the presence of products from the province, especially extra virgin olive oil, in the best kitchens within and outside our country. “Pedro is part of a golden generation of Jaén restaurateurs, of whom we feel especially proud, and whose work has contributed enormously to making products such as extra virgin olive oil more appreciated by the most prestigious chefs, who have EVOO jiennense as the reference fat in their kitchens”, Reyes pointed out.

In this gala held in Lisbon, the extra virgin olive oils "Jaén Selección" 2018 -Castillo de Canena, Claramunt, Maquiz, Nobleza del Sur, Oro de Cánava, Picualia, Puerta de Las Villas and Melgarejo Premium- also had an important presence. Ecological– that have been tasted by restaurateurs, critics and gastronomic experts who have gathered at this event through a space installed by the Diputación de Jaén in it. Representatives of the companies that provide these EVOOs have also attended this gala in which the restaurateurs and experts who have come to the “Jaén Selección” space have received a kitchen board made from olive wood.

The presence of the Jaén Selección as the only oils in this gala "represents an exceptional opportunity to reach Spanish and Portuguese restaurateurs who are among the best in international gastronomy", underlined Francisco Reyes, who emphasized that the Promoting these oils in this act "means participating in one of the greatest gastronomic events that are organized in the world and that our best oils are present in it is a real luxury", added the president of the Provincial Administration.
