Coronavirus: definitive guide to clean your jewelry at home

Most of us are confined to the house, but we go outside to do the shopping at the supermarket, to walk our dogs, or for some other (valid) excuse that makes us move from our homes.

When we are abroad we can come into contact with the virus in the least expected way: through supermarket products, park seats or (almost) any object that we touch with our hands.

For this reason, it is important to know how to clean and disinfect the virus in each material in order to be able to kill the bacteria once we return home.

Jewelry is a hotspot for infection, just like plastic, cardboard or copper, but learning to be careful with it can be a great prevention.

The life of the bacteria in each material depends on its composition and the contact time between the surface and the virus.

A recent The Journal of Hospital states that "a high temperature of 30º or 40º considerably reduces the duration of the persistence of the virus. A temperature of 4ºC can increase its permanence to more than 20 days".

Hygiene is an essential factor in curbing the Coronavirus, but washing your hands is not the only safety measure. Airing the clothes when we return home, washing them by hand and keeping them in a separate place are some of the recommendations of the experts in the field.

In this case, jewelry (particularly rings) are less lucky since, being in our hands, they are much more likely to be contaminated than the rest of our things.

Washing both hands and jewelry is essential: everyone is recommended to wash their rings, bracelets and watches at least once a day with warm water and mild dish soap.

In the case of rings, for example, it is advisable to wash them before putting them on and soak them for a while to loosen all dirt.

Then it is important to brush them with a soft bristle toothbrush to finish removing any residue.

Finally, we discovered that "it is advisable to use effective disinfectant products against coronavirus such as hydrogen peroxide, applying the compound to the object through a wipe."

Hydrogen peroxide is also known as hydrogen peroxide, a product that we all have at home.

But of course, sometimes the simplest advice is the best: when in doubt, it's always best to remove your rings, put them away, and not take them anywhere.
