A job that does not go unnoticed by the hundreds of drivers who daily pass through the Oliva de Plasencia crossing to go to the towns of the Trasierra region and the towns of Las Hurdes. It will be an example of the textile art that our grandmothers used to make in the past to make numerous household items and that these women have now used their technique to decorate the streets of this small town near the city of Plasencia.

The Junta de Extremadura paid homage, on the International Day of Rural Women, to the women of the "Cuarzo Rosa" Association of Oliva de Plasencia, with the aim of giving visibility to the talent and social work they carry out through the "Weaving Life" project, which is what you can see in this report that we finished doing this morning in the streets and squares of the town.

This initiative encourages social participation and values traditions and customs through creativity, which in turn represents a tourist attraction.

Among his creations, which decorate parks, squares and streets of the town each season, stand out Velázquez's Meninas, Van Gogho's sunflowers, and garlands turned into awnings to protect passers-by from the sun in summer.

Equality is a strategic objective of the Government of the Junta de Extremadura. Only from the transversality of a shared objective in the whole of the governmental action will equality be able to transform the reality of Extremadura, in such a way that it allows a more just society to be achieved in which the necessary gender perspective is applied in all areas of society and taking into account the aspect of rurality.

Currently, rural women are also entrepreneurs, self-employed, artisans and co-owners of farms.

The rural world today has an incalculable value, as the Covid 19 pandemic has shown, as it is an environment full of opportunities. For this reason, the social participation of women is of the utmost importance, which allows them to remain active and committed to the life of their municipalities, remarked the Councilor for Culture of the Oliva de Plasencia City Council, Julia Gutiérrez Mateos.

This important project unquestionably has the essential support of the town council and some public institutions.
