The luxury of students

Students of Río Cuarto know what it means that illustrious names wear their shirt throughout its history. But in recent years there have been a couple of strong surnames: Pablo Aimar (he played his last official match at 'León') and Néstor Ortigoza. For this season, the illusions in the 'Empire of the south' have been renewed, since a squad was put together with pretensions to once again be the protagonist of the First National and with a reinforcement that shook the market: Fernando Belluschi.

The midfielder who emerged from Newell's and with important steps through River, Olympiakos, Porto and San Lorenzo, among others –he was even a player for the Argentine National Team–, was announced this week as a brand new addition to Estudiantes, which generated a revolution in the city, like the arrival of 'Gordo' Ortigoza.

The talented midfielder, born in the town of Los Quirquinchos, was champion with the U20 National Team in the South American Championship in 2003 and champion of the Uefa Europa League in 2011 with Porto, and comes to Estudiantes to contribute all his experience, beyond he never played in a promotion category. By the way, the player expressed: “I felt that there was someone on the other side who trusted me. That was the decision that he mobilized me to get to Students. It is the first time that I am going to play in the category and I come to play football”.

Belluschi, 38, said that Lautaro Formica, a former 'León' player, was important, since he spoke highly of the institution. “With 'Laucha' I talked a lot, especially about the city, because of the family. His daughter was born here and he was very happy. My daughters are going to have a good time here, which is the most important thing. Obviously I asked him the typical questions that we players ask ourselves, such as training and club facilities. He spoke very well to me, so he helped me a lot in my decision, ”said the midfielder as soon as he arrived in the city.

The hiring of Belluschi by Estudiantes broke the transfer market in the ascent. Without a doubt, it is the most dazzling name, along with the arrivals of Facundo Parra and Hernán Fredes in Chacarita or Jonathan Botinelli in San Martin de San Juan. But it was not the only incorporation of the institution chaired by Alicio Dagatti since, so far, 16 footballers have arrived at the 'León', including Luis Silba, Santiago Zurbiggen, Ezequiel Bonarcoso, Emanuel Cuevas and, without a doubt, the return of the goalkeeper Adrián Peralta, who with the light blue jacket achieved two promotions.
