Ferrari recruits former Apple design chief to create its first electric car

The Exor NV holding company and Ferrari have announced this week that they will begin collaborating with the LoveFrom designer collective for the development of future models of the brand, among which its first electric will be located. Many names are part of this firm, but the sports car manufacturer will work specifically with Marc Newson and Jony Ive, Apple's former head of design.

The idea will be to combine Ferrari's signature style with LoveFrom's "unrivaled expertise and creativity," according to Ive and Newson. Thus, they will help conceive future models of the company by working together with their own design department.

Both designers already worked together during the development of the well-known Apple Watch and now they say they are looking forward to this project: "As Ferrari owners and collectors, we couldn't be more excited to collaborate with this extraordinary company and, in particular, with the design team directed by Flavio Manzoni", they have mentioned in a statement.

For his part, John Elkann, the president of the Maranelllo brand, has acknowledged that they had already thought about making this collaboration for a long time: “Shortly after the founding of LoveFrom, we started talking with Jony and Marc about opportunities to combine their renowned creativity world with ours, in a complementary and incremental way”.

Of course, the work of this designer firm will not be limited exclusively to the manufacturer's cars. The agreement also establishes that they will collaborate to develop Ferrari's recent strategy focused on the world of fashion, as well as carry out work for other Exor companies, focused on the creation of luxury items.

In any case, this decision will have a significant impact on the future of the well-known Italian firm in a year that has been marked by an important change: the retirement of its former CEO, Louis Camilleri. It was on September 1 when this position was filled by Benedetto Vigna, who came from the electronics company STMicroelectronics.
