Fortnite and Balenciaga have a very expensive collaboration for a free video game

If you haven't entered Fortnite yet and you're thinking of downloading it, we have some very important news for you: IT'S NOT FREE. No matter what anyone tells you or leads you to believe, there are few lies in the gaming world as big as saying that Fortnite is free to play just because you don't get charged to play it. Seriously, if you end up liking it, you'll spend more on it than it would have cost to buy a new console. We already warned you.

And Epic Games rubs us in the face of the luxury and glamor involved in playing this title, not only because of the technical requirements of its graphics engine, but also because of the enormous gateway that each game is. There is no cosmetic in the game that gives you an advantage, there is no stronger or more resistant, nothing makes you faster. And yet, we see with respect as a professional gamer who shows a particularly expensive skin.

But that's fashion. A frivolous world of appearances that, however, impact us all. For this reason, a collaboration between Fortnite and the important fashion design firm Balenciaga were, if you think about it, something to be expected. But unlike other collaborations, this is a two-way street. It's not just about fashion store designs brought into the game, but actual clothing inspired by the game.

This is where things get messy, because Fortnite clothing isn't cheap... or overly elaborate. For example, Pulgoso, one of the characters that has become an official Balenciaga "model", Pulgoso, wears a simple white sweatshirt with the name of the game in the center of the chest. Well, if you wanted to buy it to use it, it would cost you $1,290. Those are around $26,000 MXN.

With that you buy a PC Gamer, bro. The cheapest selling item in this collection is a cap that, just as plain, just bears the word "Fortnite" and the Balenciaga branding. And it can be yours for 395 USD, or something like $8,000 MXN. Luckily, the skins of the collaboration do not follow this line, since the cosmetics range between 300 and 1,500 V-Bucks, which can be obtained for just over $200 MXN. We would say that it is "cheap", but we are not considering that we pay about 200 pesos for clothes that DO NOT EXIST.

Everywhere, this collaboration has made people reflect on fashion, its scope, its accessibility and, above all, its necessity. Can we attack Balenciaga clothes and defend the skins of a game? They are essentially the same thing, but seen at different angles. Will you buy any of the cosmetics? Or even more, would you buy Balenciaga and Fortnite clothes?
