With the explosive rise in electricity and gas prices, the drop in temperatures becomes a little harder. The energy crisis could have an even greater impact on the upward trend in prices and there are those who cannot afford to spend so much. In addition, the first Spanish cold wave is approaching, with temperatures between five and ten degrees below normal on these dates.

This winter we can make use of some tricks, such as covering up nooks and crannies with insulating tape or laying rugs, in order to keep home temperatures under control without having to suffer higher bills. Clothing is also our greatest ally when it comes to keeping us warm and warm.

the cold arrives

With the rise in electricity and gas prices, the drop in temperatures becomes harder

These are some of the best tricks to keep the home at a good temperature in the cold season:

thicker curtains

It is important to have more opaque and thick curtains for winter. The windows or the balcony of the house are cold entrances, so we must control these areas well. If the curtains are thermal, the result will be much more favorable and we can better face a winter without heating.

Open the house during daylight hours

The hours of light and sun are our greatest ally to keep the house warm during the winter, so it is important to open blinds and curtains during the day so that the temperature inside the home increases. The strongest hours of sunshine are usually between twelve noon and four in the afternoon, although in winter they are slightly reduced.

And shut everything down for the night

Just as it is important to take advantage of the hours of sunshine, we cannot forget to close all the windows when the sun goes down. Once it gets dark, which in winter is usually very early, temperatures drop considerably and we are exposed to more cold. For this reason, it is important to close windows, curtains and blinds, without forgetting to do the same with the doors.

Put thick rugs

Maintaining the temperature of the floor of the home is important, since stepping on a cold floor can cause colds throughout the winter. Maintaining a good floor temperature, in addition to warming our feet, will better insulate the house and reduce cold drafts on the floor.

Cover the kitchen hood

It may sound strange, but the hood in our kitchen not only expels air when we cook, but it can also be a source of cold in the home. For this reason, it is advisable to cover it with something, such as a plastic sheet, when it is not being used.

cover the windows

Shrink plastic is a very common packaging that in winter can serve as thermal insulation for our windows. Another good option to cover the windows is bubble wrap, which will also help us to avoid leaks of hot air from the home or cold air inlets.

Use electrical tape

In cold weather, insulating tape can help us keep the heat inside the home. If you place this tape on areas such as windows, doors or small gaps, you will not allow cold air to enter through the insulation. In the home there are small nooks and crannies through which the cold from the street enters, so we must cover them and prevent leaks.

Look at the plugs

As with the kitchen hood, the same thing happens with the plugs. They are small holes through which cold enters the home, although we are not aware of it. A good tip is to seal cracks and gaps around the plug with putty, insulating them so that no air gets through.

thermos for hot drinks

Thermoses preserve the temperature of hot drinks for hours, which are very important to warm us up when we are cold. Coffee, tea, milk... keeping these drinks hot in a thermos will always ensure a hot drink when we are out of temperate.

clothes and blankets

There is no better way to stay warm than to wrap up warm, so this winter we must get blankets and layers of very warm clothing. The best way to maintain body temperature without heating will be to dress warmly, materials such as wool or flannel are very good options.

The fireplace closed when not in use

If you have a fireplace at home, the cold without heating may not be a problem, since it is an alternative. It is not complicated or expensive to find firewood, we just have to know how to light it. However, when it is not being used, it is very important to keep it closed, since it can be a source of cold air in the home.

use candles

In small spaces, candles can be used to warm the room temperature. It is best to use large candles, which will give off more heat and last longer before burning out. Even so, we cannot forget the risk of lighting candles with lots of clothes and blankets around the house.

To do physical exercise

We all know that physical exercise helps us warm up, so it can help us get through the winter without heating and be a little healthier. By doing simple exercises we will already increase our body temperature, it is not necessary to do hard training.

House orientation and decoration

There are many factors that influence the temperature of the home, such as orientation or decoration. The location of the house greatly influences its temperature, in high areas it will always be colder than in low areas. In a north-facing house, the sun's rays will be less and this will cause more cold in winter. In addition, decoration and dark colors can also help us.
