Holmen Paper will lay off almost half of its workforce in Fuenlabrada.

Holmen Paper despedirá a casi la mitad de su plantilla en Fuenlabrada

The decision adopted by the Swedish multinational is to cut the workforce by almost half: 170 jobs out of the 350 total. The production line that Holmen Paper wants to stop is the one that makes recycled coated paper for magazines, which generates 400,000 kilos a day.

According to the company committee, this decision is a "setback" for the workers and the city of Fuenlabrada, because it would also affect 1,000 indirect jobs. The works council does not rule out mobilizations if they do not receive satisfactory explanations, and from the company they attribute the dismissals to the increase in the cost of recovered paper and the drop in the final sale price, as its general director Micael Wirent points out.

According to Wirent, the layoffs could be effective between April and June. This afternoon the first meeting between workers and the Swedish president will take place to address the matter.
